This Thursday is a big date for one of my best friends, Grant Jones!
Grant has been working on his album for over two years (or more…or less, it’s seemed like forever) and the wait has definitely been worth it. It’s really great to see people go through the process of writing, recording, and putting out an album and I am happy to have been with Grant through the process.
Grant’s songs about the human struggle have always struck me in that large bittersweet area of my heart that I carry around: love, heartache, joy, too many long nights at the bar, and bad decisions. I am biased, but I feel like Grant has the kind of sound that most people can get into once they hear his stuff. His band is chalk-full of sensitive and talented musicians, to boot (all on the record as well):
Erik Olson, keyboards
Keller Paulson, drums
Phillip Griffin, bass and harmonies
Me, lap slide, guitar, and pedal steel
It’s the first recording that I have played lap slide and pedal steel guitar on. When I first tracked pedal steel, a year ago, I didn’t have quite a year of the instrument under my belt, but it was enough to at least get that vibe on the album. The lap slide was recorded sometime last summer so it’s a little fresher.
So if you know what is good for you, then you should definitely make it a point to see this show. Oh! Also, I will be opening solo for this show, which I don't do very often. I have also been working on a lot of new material to share.
